Washington DC-area children’s book author brings ancient Iranian myths and legends to a new audience with his latest title.
Shahnameh For Kids - The Bravery of Gordafarid by comic book creator and children’s book author, Arsia Rozegar, will be released just in time for Nowruz, the Iranian new year.
Inspired by Ferdowsi’s epic poem, The Shahnameh, this children’s book retells the classic ancient tale of the courageous Iranian heroine named Gordafarid who defends a fortress all by herself against the powerful warrior Sohraub and his army.
Born in Tehran, Iran and raised in the Washington DC area, Arsia Rozegar was primarily known for his work in the comic book industry as a Digital Color Artist on comics like Marvel’s Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk. As of recently, Arsia has found himself creating children’s books about ancient Persian mythology. Previous releases include Shahnameh For Kids - The Story of Zal & Simorgh and Shahnameh For Kids - The Mighty Rostam. This children’s book series is a project of passion that honors his cultural roots by bringing timeless Iranian tales to a brand new audience.
Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh is an epic poem that features fascinating characters engaged in the exciting drama that unfolds the mythology and history of ancient Greater Iran.
“It was important to me that these children’s books capture the intrinsic spirit of The Shahnameh while also presenting a proper visual depiction of Iranian culture and identity, something that’s rarely properly depicted in media” admits Rozegar. “Gordafarid’s tale is an inspiring and empowering one that simply needs to be retold. It was an honor to create this book.”
The detailed finished illustrations in the book are handled by the talented Mike Amante. Using authentic historical reference and nods from classical Persian Miniature paintings, his whimsical art takes readers back to a faraway ancient land and time.
